What is localization, and why do you need it? 

Localization is a process where you adapt your message from one language to another. But it's more than just translation. Whether it's to one, or several languages, localization is essential for any market expansion, especially if there’s a cultural difference. By localizing your message, you protect yourself from potential culture clashes and language barriers.  

A survey made by Common Sense Advisory showed that over 70% of consumers spend most, if not all of their time on websites made in their own language; and 56% of the surveyed said that the ability to obtain information in their own language is more important than the product price.

So, what does that mean? Well, in order to reach full marketing potential, you need to cater to your target customer. You need to add credibility and familiarity to your message. It’s not about acquiring an edge on your competition anymore; nowadays it’s an industry standard.

Localization is a huge industry, and it’s growing. By 2020, the size of the industry is estimated to be around 45 billion, and it’s not hard to see why. Language connects people. There’s no better way to create a personal relationship with your demographic than communicating in their language.

Localizing content isn’t easy. Current events or social trends can shift unexpectedly, which means a localization project needs to be agile, and led by an experienced project manager. The project manager also needs to have a clear understanding on the who is the target language.
